NGSL
The New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL), incorporated in 1997 as a not-for-profit organization,
is devoted to providing educational, social, volunteer and philanthropic opportunities for its members,
who mostly consist of retired professionals and their spouses. The Hall Center, to which the NGSL is
affiliated, shares our mission of providing life-long learning opportunities. NGSL helps its members
stay involved in the vibrant, intellectually stimulating environment offered by the historically
significant Lawrence community and the University of Kansas.
What Programs does NGSL offer?
A 12-member Program Committee works to provide popular, diverse and stimulating learning and outreach
opportunities to members. Pre-registration is required for all programs, which are open to NGSL members
and their out-of-town guests. Since NGSL is not-for-profit, all programs are self-supporting. Some past
programs include:
- "A History of Lawrence," a review of the exciting heritage of our community and region including
field trips to local sites of historical significance.
- "Meet Me at the Lied" small group meetings with performers and experts about music, theatre,
opera, and dance coordinated with upcoming shows and productions.
- Tours of the exhibits at the Spencer Museum of Art on the KU campus and the Lawrence Arts Center downtown.
- Football and baseball tailgates.
- Out-of-town trips have included visits to the Eisenhower and Truman Libraries, art museums, ballet,
theatrical productions, the symphony, and other events in Kansas City, St. Joseph, Topeka and Manhattan.
In addition to the numerous programs NGSL offers, there are also three dinner events held each year,
which includes an annual meeting.
